v3.2 Itchio Feedback & Steam Achievements
Last month we were very fortunate to be featured on the Itch.io homepage! That was a big honor for us, but it also led to quite a few of the changes that we'll see in this patch...
With an influx of new players we were able to get lots of feedback. We also had a bunch of streamers feature Little Ghost around this time. Watching someone play is just so incredibly informative: you can see in the moment what is connecting and what isn't. So thank you to everyone who streamed or commented or wrote to me. I hope you'll enjoy all the quality of life updates in this patch.
STEAM ACHIEVEMENTS
The other big thing in this v3.2 is the addition of Steam Achievements. These are totally optional, you can play v3.2 on Steam if you want to collect the achievements. If that doesn't interest you, stay right here and play this version without them.
There are 70 achievements and they are exclusive to the demo. I really wanted to drive home the idea that this demo can be treated as a full game in its own right. There are achievements inspired by indiedev champions Indie Game Collective & Indie World Order, one based on the Little Ghost posters done by Pedro Ferreyro, as well as a few based on streamer playthrus. Plus they add a lot of fun new quests & challenges.
Again, this demo is evolving and is a slice of something larger, but it is fully formed and makes a great 2 hour game experience on its own.
3 QUESTS MORE STREAMLINED, LESS DIFFICULT
+Made the screaming baby less difficult for the purple key 💜(ufo/bookshelf)
+Made a drastic change to the blue key 👁️(rhino/comicbook) making it not only easier but also re-imagining how it can be most useful in directing players across the map NOTE: You can still use old save files, whatever doors you've unlocked, stay unlocked. Any remaining locked doors on your save file will just be moved.
+Redesigned fireman/bucket quest to remove redundancy and back-tracking
INDIE GAME CAMEOS
We also added some features to the in-game digital checklist for the Indiedev cameos. Each IndieGame now has their name + twitter handle light up when you find them and you'll see which ones you're missing on the checklist.
UPDATED MAP ARTWORK
Added an X/Y Coordinate grid to all Maps & Naps, which should make using the compass much more intuitive.
MP3 ICON CHANGE
The original Mp3 Icon was a hexagon-styled cube that I had designed 2 years ago, but in the time since digital hexagons have become associated with technology I don't want to associate with, so the solution was a sort of cube-within-a-cube redesign that I think keeps the original intent.
SIDE SCROLLER MAGAZINE
Skull Commando Labs does a fantastic digital magazine that showcases Indie games. We added the cover to the issue that features Little Ghost onto the in-game bookshelf at the north-east Edge of the map. Just a fun reference I was excited to add
ADDITIONAL COMIC BOOK ART
This one is a secret, you'll see it if you find it ;)
TWITCH ART DISPLAY
Oh Little Ghost game art now displays on Twitch as its own category! I'm SO happy with how that looks!
KICKSTARTER ANNOUNCEMENT
Lastly, after much thought, I've decided to do a Little Ghost Kickstarter in August. Nothing crazy, just something to help us take the next steps. I hope you'll support us when the time comes
That's it for today, Hope you enjoy the new updates!
